Artist Statement
In my perceptual paintings, the framing of intimate and domestic scenes and subjects pushes against edges and structures. Fabrics take on figurative and topographical qualities, stretching grids and obscuring horizons. Mundane subjects locate these pieces in the still life genre, a tradition that lends itself to exploring issues around work, leisure, gender, power, and consumption. Working from observation, many of my pieces attempt to find a balance between what is seen and felt, exploring the subjectivity of the painter and viewer. I am interested in vulnerability and visibility.
