Group Format: Closing reception at the Uptown Arts Center on Saturday, November 22 from 7-10 pm
In November, the artists of Group Format will be creating a show, also called “Group Format”, at the Uptown Arts Center.
Group Format members:
Snow Yunxue Fu
Our task is to each write a personal ten-year plan. Making a plan can be seen as an act of hubris but, considering the sensibility of our group, I think it’s something else in this case. Most of us aren’t interested in being audacious, but there is always a certain level of presumption involved in making commitments and we are interested in making commitments. So what then, if not hubris? Sharing our aspirations with each other is an exercise in vulnerability, an act of relational submission, and a statement of faith. These are the affirmative terms upon which we, together, take on the task of engaging the most critical of practices: art making. This exhibition will itself be a manifestation of discovering what it is to make art in communion with others.
The Open Gallery hours will be times when the members of the group meet in the space to further the work of the show- creation, discussion, and decision-making. Visitors are welcome at those times. Over time, an evolution of artifacts will build up in the space and bear witness to the show and our community.
Group Format was established in 2013 and gathers on a bi-weekly basis for the purpose of critiquing the artwork of one or more of its members.
